4 Important Dental Kid's Hygiene Tips
When it comes to developing healthy dental habits, it is best to help your kids start developing positive dental habits from a young age. Developing the right dental habits can help your child enjoy good teeth for the rest of their life.
Tip #1: Start Brushing as Soon as Teeth Appear
As soon as your child gets their first baby teeth, you are going to want to start brushing your child's teeth twice a day. When your child is very young, you should brush their teeth for them. As your child gets a little older and wants to be more independent, you can hold your child's hand and help them brush. Eventually, you can have your child brush by themselves and go over hard-to-reach areas before they reach the point where you can fully hand the responsibility off to your child.
The sooner you start brushing your child's teeth and developing this healthy habit, the better for your child.
Tip #2: Take the Full Two Minutes
When you brush your child's teeth, don't rush the process. Teach your child that they are supposed to brush for two minutes to brush their teeth thoroughly. There are lots of fun phone timers, as well as physical timers you can use to help your child learn how long to brush their teeth.
You can even reward your child with a sticker or something on a sticker chart for brushing for the full two minutes. You want your child to learn how to brush for the right amount of time to keep their teeth clean.
Tip #3: Start Flossing
Flossing can be challenging for children, so this is something you need to assist your child with. Just like you taught your child how to brush, you also need to teeth your child properly floss, as proper flossing is necessary to clean your teeth fully. You can use flossing sticks to help your child learn how to floss. This is something your child should practice under your supervision.
Tip #4: See the Dentist
Going to the dentist is a lot less scary when your child is used to seeing the dentist twice a year. Starting when your child's first teeth come into your child's mouth, you should take your child to the dentist every six months. This will make your child feel comfortable going to the dentist and allow the dentist to clean your child's teeth and monitor their growth and development.
When it comes to taking care of your child's teeth, you need to help your child brush and floss and teach your child the importance of taking their time when it comes to brushing and flossing. Be sure to take your child to the dentist regularly to monitor their overall health.
